Building Community Capacity

Environmental Culture

The environmental education programs that CEDO carries out are based on direct experiences in nature, include workshops and develop special curricula for youth, teachers, fishermen, ejidatarios and community leaders who promote a participatory environmental culture in the communities of the northern Gulf of California. These programs provide local actors with a deep understanding and appreciation of the ecosystems on which they depend and the laws that regulate them. With empowerment through knowledge and involvement in conservation actions and within an atmosphere of respect, the CEDO team and community members are building a sensitized and informed public that can work together to empower future generations.

CEDO’s performance in non-formal environmental education was awarded the NATIONAL Ecological Merit Award granted by Mexico’s Ministry of the Environment and Natural Resources (SEMARNAT) in 2009 (See CEDO Awards).
